Welcome to the new home of WI Golden Gloves presented by the Bob Lynch Boxing Foundation

In the spring of 2019, the Golden Gloves tournament came to Madison, Wisconsin for the first time in our state’s history as an annual event!

The Bob Lynch Boxing Foundation was established to support amateur boxing in the greater Madison area to train boxers for competition at local, regional and national levels. We are excited to breathe new life into the storied tradition of Wisconsin Golden Gloves.

Golden Gloves (est. Chicago, 1923) is the highly esteemed and nationally recognized amateur boxing tournament sanctioned by USA Boxing, the governing body for Olympic-style amateur boxing in the U.S. Each year, champions from local and regional tournaments advance to compete at the national tournament, according to gender and weight class. Since the first National Golden Gloves tournament in 1928, Wisconsin has had 19 national champions; during the 1950’s and ‘60’s, the state tournament would often draw thousands of people.

This sport is not for everyone, but for those drawn to it, it has a unique ability to serve as a conduit for personal growth. Our amateur boxing programs (and competitions such as Golden Gloves) help cultivate self-discipline, respect for self and others and develop critical life skills. Through the dedicated effort the sport of boxing demands, our athletes develop the confidence and perseverance to harness their potential and succeed in other areas of their lives.

The eight male and five female champions from the Wisconsin Golden Gloves tournament in Madison will have the opportunity to travel and compete for the honor of being a National Golden Gloves Champion. This trip is often the first time leaving the state for these athletes, and will undoubtedly be an experience they’ll remember for a lifetime.

Because the safety of athletes is always of top priority, USA Boxing tightly regulates and oversees the sport; protective gear is worn for all sparring and competition; and all coaches, officials and athletes must be registered with USA Boxing.
